Dutch hybrid: Pink Unicum tomato variety

To a modern person, life without tomatoes probably would have seemed unthinkable. But the tomato was widely used as a vegetable crop only in the middle of the 19th century, when it was massively grown on the territory of the Crimea.

Over the next century, it gradually moved to the north, and by the middle of the past century there were already about half a thousand varieties and hybrids adapted for cultivation up to Siberia.

In this article we will consider one of the popular hybrids - the tomato "Pink Unicum", we will give it a description and make a description of the variety with a photo of fruits and a bush.

Description

When it comes time to decide on which seed to choose for the coming season, you should pay attention to the Dutch Pink Unicum f1 hybrid. It is used both in greenhouses for industrial plantings, and in their own household plots for personal needs.

Did you know? Everyone knows that tomatoes were brought to Europe by Columbus, but even before him, this plant was brought to Italy by the famous conquistador Fernand Cortes. As in the case of the discovery of America, named after the true discoverer of Amerigo Wispucci, Columbus in history got other people's laurels.

Mid-season hybrid - after seedlings appear, the first tomatoes should be expected after 120 days, although in more favorable conditions this may occur earlier. According to some farmers, ripening occurs after 68-70 days after the seedlings were planted.

Fruiting for a long time, and the green fruits taken from the bush, which have no chance of ripening, can lie, ripening for quite a long time, up to the New Year, however, they will lose much in taste.

Important! The yield of tomato "Pink Unicum" is high: from a square of plantings it is possible to collect from 10 to 17 kilograms of fruits.

The manufacturer recommends it for growing in greenhouses in temperate climates.

Bushes

The bush of these tomatoes is indeterminate, that is, tall, woven. If you do not pinch it in time, but it will grow “up to heaven and above,” but you can draw a short bush out of it. The root system is powerful and strong.

Did you know? For a very long time, Europeans considered tomato a poisonous plant and even tried to use its fruits for the purpose of poisoning. Probably the reason for this misconception was that fruits containing a considerable amount of acid were served in a tin pot. Sour juice, reacting with tin, becomes toxic. But as an ornamental plant, Europeans, and from the XVIII century and the Russian aristocracy, used tomatoes with pleasure.

The leaves are medium in size and grow in moderation; the internodes are short. The manufacturer claims that each plant produces up to 7 brushes, but in practice it turns out 5 or 6, which is also a good result. In each hand from 4 to 6 fruits. The inflorescence of the plant is simple.

When making a bush, it is recommended to leave 2 or 3 branches: if this is not done, it can drive out up to 5 trunks.

Fruit

This hybrid is quite popular among modern gardeners, because it is tasty, beautiful, transportable, unpretentious: it has a lot of advantages.

Tomatoes on it grow medium size and weight, about 250 grams. But this is in theory, but in practice it is possible to achieve half a kilogram of fruits, but only on the first hands. Of course, for this the plant needs to provide excellent conditions. But this is if you specifically set yourself such a goal, because even 4 tomatoes per kilogram are a very worthy result. The color of the tomatoes "Pink Unicum", as the name implies - pink: when the fruit is very ripe - closer to scarlet, solid, there should be no stains near the stalk.

The fruit turns out smooth and rounded or flat-rounded, mostly with a flat, less often with a ribbed surface.

The thin skin, though thin, but rather dense in order to prevent the tomato from cracking, has a glossy sheen.

Inside the tomato is juicy and fleshy flesh, but not crumbly, but rather dense, many seed chambers. Due to the high sugar content, the taste of the "Pink Unicum" fruit is sweetish, almost sour. They can be eaten raw, as well as used in cooking and canning.

Did you know? Despite the fact that the tomato - a native of America, at home, he does not enjoy such popularity as in Europe, and especially in the Mediterranean. Only in Spain are these fruits harvested and eaten more than in all of South America.

Features of growing

Pink Unicum Hybrid is grown through seedlings.

Important! The time of sowing on seedlings depends on the desired period of transplanting in the greenhouse. Usually sown in mid-March, but you can slightly shift the period if there is a well-equipped heated greenhouse.

Before sowing the seeds, they are soaked for 12 hours in a stimulator solution.

Soil tomatoes need light: humus and garden ground 1x1, if the latter is too clay, add some sand.

They are sown to a depth of 1.5-2 centimeters and covered with glass or film. After sprouting, the containers with seedlings are moved to the most bright place with the necessary lighting.

Dive seedlings after the first pair of true leaves, while it must be fed complex fertilizers. Before planting seedlings in the ground, the soil in the greenhouse must be loosened. At 2 months of age, strong and healthy plants are transferred to the soil, after making fertilizer in the wells - superphosphate or wood ash. Thickening planting is not worth it, it will adversely affect the yield. Optimally planted 2-3 squares per square meter.

To form "Pink Unicum" should be in 2 stalks: after 5 or 6 brushes have been formed, remove all available lateral shoots. It is desirable to pinch the growth point so that the plant gives its strength to the fruits.

When a bush grows high enough, it needs to be tied up. During the whole season, it is desirable to feed the plants 3 or 4 times, using complex fertilizer.

Tomatoes are watered in moderation, observing the drying out of the soil.
