Garlic is a popular remedy in traditional medicine due to its numerous healing properties.
Especially effective is the use of this plant in diseases associated with inflammation of the nasal mucous membranes.
Garlic juice is not difficult to prepare drops at home, which will effectively and quickly help to cope with such an unpleasant symptom as a cold.
On how to properly use this miraculous popular recipe, we will discuss later in the article.
Indications for use
Some advise using garlic remedies for any symptoms of inflammation of the nasal mucosa. However, in all cases, folk remedies from this strong-smelling plant will be helpful. You can use garlic with the following symptoms:
- Severe runny nose with thick secretions of yellow-green mucus.
- The appearance of pus in the discharge.
- Shortness of breath due to nasal congestion.
All of these symptoms point to a bacterial coryza, which can be caused by such harmful organisms as staphylococcus or pneumococcus. However, you should not resort to the help of traditional medicine without the knowledge of the diagnosis confirmed by the doctor: self-medication can harm even more.
The benefits and harms of such treatment
Garlic contains substances called “phytoncides”. They have a beneficial effect on the human body in the event of a bacterial cold: phytoncides help reduce harmful microorganisms, appearing on the walls of the nose and provoking copious mucus.
However, garlic alone cannot completely destroy the bacteria, therefore it is recommended to use it only as a useful supplement to the basic medical treatment.
Despite its medicinal properties, garlic juice is a substance that can cause irritation and even burn, especially when the mucous membranes of the body hit the delicate surface. Therefore, do not drip into the nose undiluted juice or lay the whole pieces of the heads in the sinuses.
Contraindications
Important! Drugs made from garlic are contraindicated for children of any age. For them, the juice of this plant is too caustic, so this “treatment” will not do any good, it will only aggravate the situation. For the correct treatment of inflammatory processes in the nasal mucosa in children, consultation with a doctor is necessary.
You must be sure that the person is not allergic to garlic in order to use such drops. An acute allergic reaction is extremely dangerous for a person, even the threat to his life.
Also instillation of garlic juice solution into the nose is contraindicated:
- with watery nasal secretions: at this stage of the disease it is better not to introduce any drugs and give the immune system to cope with the disease on their own;
- in case of ulcerative lesions of the mucous membrane, caustic garlic juice will adversely affect the affected areas;
- with viral infections: garlic is powerless against the virus that has already penetrated the cells, it will only dry the mucous membrane and give harmful bacteria more conditions for growth and development.
