The grape variety Dunav is named after the Danube (in Bulgarian the name of this river is “Dunav”). The variety is also known as Dunov and Miracle of Bulgaria.

Breeding history and breeding region

Dunav (Miracle of Bulgaria) - Bulgarian interspecific hybrid, obtained by crossing three types: Balkan, Ribi mekhura and Cardinal. Brought Dunav Nedyalka Matevska and Mincho Kondarev in 1966.

First, they crossed the Balkans with Ribi mehur, and then the resulting hybrid - with the Cardinal. The Dunav was included in the 1997 Bulgarian List of Grape Varieties.

Specifications

The harvest of Dunava is consistently high - at least 130 centners per hectare.

The taste of berries is harmonious, there are small nutmeg notes. Great taste is also demonstrated by Velika, Ruta, Princess Olga and Chocolate.

Sugar grapes range from 16 to 21 percent. The acidity of the berries is slightly higher balanced - from 5 to 7 g / l.
